After winning the Liverpool Festival Piano Student of the Year Competition at the age of 17, Kirsty decided a career in music was for her. She graduated with a BMus (hons) from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in 2007, where she studied with Fali Pavri and John Thwaites, and also received coaching from Judith Howarth, Adrian Chandler and Alexander Baillie. More recently she has taken part in masterclasses with Pascal Nemirovski, Paul Roberts and Robert Durso.
A champion of contemporary music, Kirsty is committed to expanding the repertoire of the Piano, which has resulted in various commissions from emerging composers such as Alasdair Spratt, Alastair Clarkson and Craig Wakerley, amongst others. She has also taken part in many world premieres, including Gary Carpenter’s “The Lamplighter”, in which she performed with the PYC and the 10:10 Ensemble, and Daniel Brewbaker’s “Fields of Vision” with the RLPO.
During her short career she has worked with many talented artists, including opera singer Lisa Cassidy, concert singers Claire Eadington and Barbara Ruzsics, and flautist Kia Bennett. She currently accompanies the Una Voce Opera Company, based in Crosby.
Since completing her undergraduate degree, Kirsty has successfully passed her PGCE and is currently working as a tutor in Crosby. Kirsty was awarded the Hudson Challenge Trophy for music teaching by the Crosby Festival of Music, Speech and Dance in 2010.
