You’ve always known us as Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral Concerts Society - an orchestra and choir run by a common committee. The Society and both its performing groups have a long and proud history in the city having been in existence for almost 50 years.
It was founded by Philip Duffy, at that time the Master of the Music at the Cathedral. Past triumphs have included a history of commissioning new works, which culminated in a commission in 2008 by Sir Peter Maxwell Davis to celebrate the City's year as European Capital of Culture. Sir Peter attended the first performance.
Before the pandemic, all rehearsals and most concerts took place at the Cathedral. Then the world changed. We needed to restart and there were huge changes at Liverpool Hope University. We put our heads together and decided to combine some aspects of music at both the Society and the University. After a successful first year, we have now decided to update our image and our name. Students from Hope’s Graphic Design department has designed our new logo, below.
