Crypt Concert Room Carmina Burana Krása Brundibár Orff Carmina Burana Lynne Rogers, soprano Curtis Perriman, bass St Edward’s College Vocal Ensemble, Lynne Rogers, director Cathedral Youth Choir, Curtis Perriman, director Cantata Choir, Richard Lea, director A fascinating juxtaposition of two works written during the Nazi ascendancy: Orff’s setting of medieval student songs remains enormously popular but only now is Krása’s short opera Brundibár (Bumblebee)becoming known. It was performed in the concentration camp of Terezín in a cynical attempt by the commandant to persuade the visiting Red Cross that conditions were decent, even humane. However, Krása and his young musicians outwitted these intentions by producing what was, in effect,a strong condemnation of all that the regime stood for. Saturday 23 November, 2013, 7.30 pm
