For the first time, Crosby Symphony Orchestra comes to the Metropolitan Cathedral for their annual Charity concert, performing Beethoven’s famous Choral Symphony, perhaps the greatest piece of classical music ever written. A genuinely pivotal work in the history of music, it has been described as a hymn for peace and freedom that redefined the nature of symphonic ambition. First though comes Bruckner’s Te Deum, a majestic piece in its own right. Scored for large orchestra, chorus and 4 soloists, Bruckner is said to have proclaimed that on the day he was to meet his maker, “I will show him the score of my Te Deum, and he may judge me accordingly.”
