It has long been known that Bach wrote not just the Matthew and John Passions but also one based on St Mark’s gospel but that the music was lost.
Recently, however, it became possible to reconstruct it. Performances have been given on the continent but in this country only in London making this a unique opportunity to hear Bach’s “Third” Passion. Preceding this is Tavener’s haunting Funeral Ikos and separating the two parts is a new work by Mike Stubbs, local composer and choir member. Click to listen to:
