Mozart’s sublime Requiem, his last work, is preceded by the ‘funeral’ symphony of his friend Haydn and by the touching Elegaic Song of the composer who had hoped to study with him, Beethoven.There is music by an older contemporary of Mozart’s on Saturday, 11th July: Gluck’s opera Orpheus and Eurydice.
